ECD Hub Networking

Join us for a lunchtime event designed to connect and support early-career scholars across PEC. The session will begin with a short presentation introducing the ECD group, its activities and opportunities for involvement.

This will be followed by an informal lunch and networking session, providing a relaxed space to meet colleagues, exchange ideas and build new connections. The event aims to strengthen networks among early-career scholars, encourage constructive conversations across research areas, and foster a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere within the PEC community.

Film Projection and Debate with Filipa César

Filipa César is a Portuguese artist and filmmaker who uses different techniques in her art. César creates political and anticolonial video-art productions.

She will screen one of her short films and then engage the audience in a debate about her artistic production.

Writing Grant Applications

This workshop will help Early Career Researchers understand what funders and reviewers look for in successful grant applications. Through short presentations from recent grant recipients and evaluators, participants will gain practical insights into identifying funding opportunities, developing application strategies, navigating the review process and avoiding common pitfalls.

The workshop will also include small-group breakout sessions, where participants will deliver a three-minute project pitch and receive feedback from peers and senior scholars. The session will conclude with key takeaways and practical tips that participants can apply to future funding applications.

15th EISA General Assembly

EISA members are cordially invited to attend the 15th General Assembly meeting of EISA. The General Assembly is a key pillar of the organisation as a democratic association.

The Assembly will feature a detailed association report on existing and newly developed initiatives. Awards will also be presented to the winners of EISA’s prizes, including the Best Dissertation Award and Best Article in the European Journal of International Relations.

Remembering Professor John Groom

Professor John Groom’s legacy in the field of International Relations is rich and multifaceted. His wide and significant academic production, his dedication to expanding the field of International Studies to include diverse voices from around the world, and his mentoring of generations of scholars who have influenced the field will be remembered and celebrated in this panel in his memory.

Palestine Studies

This session aims to discuss the evolution and current role of Palestine Studies as a recognised area of inquiry in a growing number of academic institutions around the world.

Highlighting the recent creation of the Observatory for Palestine Studies at the University Institute of Lisbon, the roundtable will bring together scholars from different backgrounds and disciplines who have been working in and on Palestine over the last few decades.

The discussion will explore what is intended and desired in the field of Palestine Studies, with a focus on the relevance of interdisciplinary knowledge production. It will address the following questions:

• How have Palestine Studies succeeded in representing an autonomous field?
• How have Palestine Studies entered into dialogue with other key areas and disciplines, such as International Relations?
• What are the main current challenges in connecting research, teaching and practice in the field of Palestine Studies?

Exploring Innovative Methods and Research Practices

The Methods Café is designed as an interactive panel bringing together leading scholars and conference participants, with a particular focus on early-career researchers.

The event aims to create an open and informal space for discussion on methodological approaches, research design and the practical challenges of conducting research in International Studies. Structured as a panel discussion followed by an extended Q&A session, the event will offer participants the opportunity to engage directly with distinguished scholars working across different methodological traditions and substantive fields.

Panellists will share insights from their own research experiences, reflect on methodological choices and challenges, and discuss emerging approaches and debates in the discipline.

Publishing an article or manuscript can often feel like a complex process, especially for early-career scholars. This ECD event aims to create an open and practical discussion on writing and publishing strategies, with a particular focus on how to navigate the path towards publication.

Structured as a panel discussion followed by an interactive Q&A, the session will bring together invited scholars to share practical advice and personal experiences on key stages of the publication process, including identifying the right journal, positioning a manuscript effectively, managing revisions and responding to peer-review feedback.

The event aims to demystify academic publishing and provide early-career researchers with practical tools and actionable insights for their own publication journeys.
