Assistant/Associate Professor of Practice in Diplomacy and Negotiation

The European School of Political and Social Science (ESPOL) at Lille Catholic University invites applications for a full-time permanent position as a Maître de conférences associé (equivalent to assistant/associate professor of practice with tenure) in Diplomacy and Negotiation. The new faculty member will design and teach undergraduate and graduate courses, exercises, and practical simulations in areas of diplomacy and negotiation.

 

Candidates must have a track record of professional practice and practice-oriented teaching in diplomacy, negotiation, or a related area. A PhD in Political Science, International Relations, International Law, or a related discipline is desirable. The selected candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, mostly in diplomacy, negotiation, and mediation; organize and advise students in simulations and practical exercises (such as Model United Nations (MUN) conferences); organize and lead study trips; mentor students with an emphasis on internships; and conduct associated administrative tasks.

 

The main language of instruction is English, but proficiency in French is an important asset. For candidates without a sufficient knowledge of French, proficiency is expected within 2 years after the appointment.

 

The appointment starts on 1 September 2020 on a full-time basis.

Remuneration depends on experience and qualification. The employment package includes public and additional private health insurance, a pensions scheme, and annual leave entitlement of minimum six weeks (in addition to official holidays). The post also comes with an additional year-end bonus (thirteenth salary), a yearly performance-based research bonus, transport allowance, luncheon vouchers (tickets restaurant), as well as a yearly conference/travel and book allowance. The post does not include a relocation package.

  • if available, a syllabus for a course in negotiation, diplomacy, or a related subject

  • the contact details of two referees who can be contacted for letters of reference
