About Venue: University of Bologna
The origins of the University of Bologna go way back, and it is considered to be the oldest university in the Western world. It was founded in 1088. Its history is intertwined with that of the great names of science and literature as Nicolaus Copernicus, Laura Bassi, the first woman to hold a university chair in 1776, Umberto Eco or Pier Paolo Pasolini. It is a keystone and a point of reference for European culture.
History of the University of Bologna
The Department of Political and Social Sciences, founded in 2012, boasts a long-standing tradition within the Alma Mater. Since its founding, it has welcomed scholars who have been involved in public life in various capacities, including members of parliament, ambassadors, consultants and columnists, thus contributing to the university’s Third Mission, focused on social engagement. In terms of academia, the department hosts professors and researchers covering all the main disciplines of political and social sciences. Today, the department is a reference point in the field of political and social sciences and international studies at both European and national levels.
