Dr Cemal Burak Tansel is Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in International Political Economy & Politics of Global Development in the School of Geography, Politics and Sociology at Newcastle University. His research focuses on the political economy of development, historical sociology of state formation in the Middle East, and the relationship between democratic governance, legitimacy and economic reform/crises. He is the editor of States of Discipline: Authoritarian Neoliberalism and the Contested Reproduction of Capitalist Order, and Authoritarian Neoliberalism: Philosophies, Practices, Contestations (with Ian Bruff). His research has been published in, among others, the European Journal of International Relations, New Political Economy, International Political Sociology, Review of International Studies, and South European Society and Politics. Dr Tansel was Programme Co-Chair of the EISA 11th Pan-European Conference on International Relations in 2017.
