Prizes and Awards

Best Article in the European Journal of International Relations 
A panel, composed of EISA Executive Board members and other EISA members will read the articles that were published in the EJIR during the period between Pan-European conferences and select the best article, which will be awarded €1000. The winner at the 2013 Warsaw Conference was Martin Shaw, for his article 'From Comparative to International Genocide Studies: The International Production of Genocide in 20th century Europe', 18, 4 (2012), 645-668. EJIR articles will be judged on the basis of several criteria, including whether the article is a major statement of a novel idea; whether it includes careful, convincing, and rigorous analysis; whether the work engages with scholarship both in IR and beyond; whether it has the potential to generate further research; and whether it has generated a new line of debate, related to either theory or policy.

Best Ph.D. Student Paper

Nominations will be accepted for papers presented at the 9th Pan-European Conference of the European International Studies Association. Nominations will be accepted from professors involved in thesis supervision or from the Ph.D. student themselves, if accompanied by a statement of support from their supervisor or member of their committee. The papers should not have been published at the time of the conference. As the judging will take place after the papers have been presented at the conference, the student will be notified of the award, and receive the prize money of €250, approximately two months after the conference. Papers will be judged on the basis of several criteria, including the originality of the contribution, the paper’s contribution to existing debates, and the degree to which it contains careful, convincing and rigorous analysis. At the Warsaw 2013 conference, the Best Ph.D. Student Paper prize was awarded to Teresa de Almeida Cravo, for her paper, 'The Construction of Mozambique’s Success'.
